£22m PFI project gets the go-ahead in Amber Valley
Work on a £22m PFI (Private Finance Initiative) project will begin this month in Amber Valley, Derbyshire.
The design, build, operate and finance project – which is being developed in partnership with Barclays Bank – will involve the demolition and rebuilding of the Amber Valley Borough Council-owned Alfreton, Ripley and Heanor Leisure Centres.
The new facilities – which are being designed by the Pozzoni Design Group – will be managed by operator DC Leisure for the next 32 years.
Each new centre will feature a 25m swimming pool, a teaching pool and fitness and aerobic suites. A new sports hall will also be built at Ripley, while the existing halls at Heanor and Alfreton will be revamped.
