Fans group offered Deva Stadium lease
Chester Fans United (CFU) - the fans' group behind efforts to form a new club after Chester City Football Club (CCFC) was wound up - has been offered a five-year lease on the Deva Stadium.
Chester West and Chester Council (CWCC) decided to award the lease to the stadium - former home of CCFC - after considering business cases put forward by CFU and a rival Danish consortium.
CWCC chief executive Steve Robinson said: "It was the panel's unanimous view that Chester Fans United, were further advanced in terms of required management structure and overall ability to enter a team into whichever league is determined by the FA.
CCFC was wound up by the High Court earlier this year after the club ran into financial difficulties. A new club led by CFU is set to be formed in its place and will be called Chester Football Club.
Meanwhile, Cardiff City Football Club has been given more time to pay off a £1.9m debt owed to HM Revenue and Customs, after the High Court approved a 42-day adjournment.
According to the BBC, the Coca-Cola Championship club was told it was facing its "last chance" but has been given extra time after it was revealed investment into the club was "imminent".
