Goodwood completes ‘glorious’ refurb

By Jason Holland    07 Jan 2015
The male and female changing areas at Goodwood have been re-imagined

Goodwood Health Club has completed an asset refresh of changing areas for its 2,200 members, under the first phase of a three-to-four year site refurbishment, partnered by Craftsman Lockers.

Opened in 1989, the club commands a more than 98 per cent monthly retention rate and sits alongside a 91-bed hotel, both successful elements of The Earl of March’s internationally acclaimed commercial estate.

Now establishing its own identity within the regional health and wellbeing marketplace, the club is aiming to further raise levels of excellence and customer satisfaction across its indoor and outdoor provision.

“Loyalty is so strong here,” said operations manager Kathryn Gard. “Some of our members have been with us since we started.”

Craftsman Lockers have partnered the club since it opened and returned to help Goodwood re-imagine the male and female changing areas in distinctive styling and finishes with heightened security.

“The quality of changing areas can affect everyone’s day so need to present the right image and enhance the total experience,” said leisure manager Jen Evans.

The project embraced several innovations, including digital locks, which have calmed concerns over keys. Members retain a four-digit code to access their belongings, while each locker opens automatically after a pre-set time, allowing everyone equal access to the provision. Staff have their own sub-master code, with a ‘master/master code’ for even higher security.

The project team retained the still fully serviceable locker frames, directing the spend on elements such as cubicle redesigns and family provision.

Light, airy and fashionable provision retains a beach hut ambience with its pale duck egg blue and grey wood décor in the female changing area, said Evans. “The male [area] features more masculine, sharp, black faux leather upholstered benches and crisp brushed metal finishes,” she added. Huge heated mirrors create a feeling of space and limit condensation.

“Members believe the refurbished changing areas have made their day much better. As one remarked, ‘they’re like a breath of fresh air’,” said Evans.
