Maintain rather than replace artificial surfaces, owners told
Replay Maintenance is aiming to educate facility owners across the UK on the benefits of maintaining their artificial sports surfaces rather than replacing them.
The company has cited Mill Hill School, Repton School and Kirkbie Kendal School – three sports centres of excellence – as examples of how being proactive with maintenance extends the life of sports surfaces.
Both London-based Mill Hill and Kendal-based Kirkbie Kendal recently selected Replay’s ‘Rejuvenation’ service, which restores compacted and contaminated synthetic pitches to ‘as new’ condition in both performance and appearance by de-compacting the surface and increasing its porosity. Compressed air is used to remove the contaminated layer of infill and restore the pile to vertical. New clean infill is then added to complete the procedure.
Meanwhile, Derby’s Repton School was able to restore both its water-based and sand-dressed surfaces after they became flooded last year and were heavily damaged. Replay Maintenance used the ‘Rejuvenation’ process for the synthetic turf pitch, but its ‘Aquatrax’ service was required for the water-based surface. This process combines pressure washing and vacuum extraction.
